Youth:
Afonso was a bright young man growing up in the Vale of Legionnaires. His parents fled from the tyrant Artomeuso in the south. Afonso attended prestigious schools and academies, where he was taught by some of the best mentors in the region.
Over time, his interests faded away from those of magick and alchemy, and more towards practical matters. Unlike most of his peers, he chose to shun the fanciful and mysterious. Tutored by the great Ferdinand the Affluent, he soon grew to have a great mind in business.
Success:
In his early 20s, Afonso created a vast shipping empire with capital from his mentor Ferdinand. Such business stretched throughout the seas to reach the most distant of ports. Spices, gold, silver, and silk were all traded from distant lands under the watch of Afonso.
Eventually, due to a scourge of pirate incursions into his shipping lanes, he hired mercenaries from the Rune-Darkened Hills to act as his private army. By his 30s, Afonso had made a name that resounded throughout the realm. He had commenced the construction of a large keep in the Ports of the Delta to act as his legacy. His family was transported to the fortress.
A tragic and mysterious purple conflagration engulfed the castle only 15 years after it was built. All but Afonso, now aged 45, perished in the flames. Since this time, his influence has only strenghtened on the outside world. The death of his kin seemed to propel him forward in both extravagance and ruthlessness. When before his name was spoken in awe and reverance, it is now whispered in fear.
