The material known as alkahest is a magickal universal solvent created by the alchemists of Cwelythvir. It has three known forms. The first is a silvery liquid, the second is clear, and the third has a ruddy tinge. None but the most intelligent and erudite of alchemists are knowledgable about the exact process by which to make alkahest.
The wealth of the nobles of Cwelythvir is at times deemed too unworthy of such a liquid. In those periods alkahest is locked away, kept under guard and steel.
