The krakens were one of the Empyrean Apostates created by the Deities. Like the dragons, they quickly organized themselves into rigid societies. Large submarine cities were constructed through their tentacles and tendrils. Spires of basalt were the main fictures of such settlements, with some even breaking through the surface of the ocean.
In the war between the Empyrean Apostates and the Deities, similar to the ratios of the dragons and giants, nearly all of the krakens chose to rebel against their progenitors. Ever since that dreaded strife, this lineage has chosen to become recluses in the deep sea. Passing ships carrying cargo or soldiers have often gone missing around such parts where the krakens are said to hide. Many blame pirates or other dangers of the oceans for such wrecks, refusing to believe that these dormant monstrosities would deign to target such vessels. This would be a frightening notion. A notion that, for the interest of crowns and other royalty, should be kept secreted away.
