Faúhô grêdags gasaƕ suma gôda weinabasja hâhands af weinatriwa biwundan wiþra þans astans triwis, jah þaírh hlaupands háuhs in þans astans usdáudeiþ matjan ija.
A hungry fox saw some good grapes hanging off a vine wound around the branches of a tree, and by jumping high into the boughs she endeavored to eat them.
Aþþan ni mag untê wêsun áuk háuha in þáim astam jah swáif usdáudjan. Iþ miþ háuhhaírtein biláiþ.
But she was not able to because they were too high in the boughs and she ceased to endeavor. However, she left with pride.
Qaþ in sis, “Sai! Ik þâhta ei þô weinabasja wêseina gôdôna, iþ nu mag saíƕan ei sind áuk juggôna.”
She said within herself, “Lo! I thought that those grapes were ripe, but now I can see that they are too sour”.
