History of Cwelythvir: Capitulum I – The Archaic Divinities

The Beginning:

No one knows from what dark corner of the realm eschewed forth the Archaic Divinities. Surely no warped edge or torn fabric of the cosmos could have spawned such darkness. Alas, there are some say that the Archaic Divinities existed long before the beginning of the realm. It is sure that they will live long after its demise. Regardless of their origin, these entities were of immense power. Their capabilities in the field of magick will never be close to being rivalled. They swam without form through the cosmic seas, engulfing and regurgitating each other in a seemingly unending period of chaos. Indeed, this age in time ended. Through their will the Archaic Divinities constructed for themselves forms dreadful and grotesque. The likeness of such horror is luckily only contained in the tattered diaries of madmen. It appears that they found a strange solace in the permanent and physical. Unlike the aeons of disorder that preceded this time, the forces of nature began to seep into the realm. It is undoubted that this was due to the wishes and willings of the Archaic Divinities.

Over time, they forged the world from the strands of chaos that had existed as long as they had. Mountains, seas, lakes, valleys, peaks, and glades were all formed from such darkness. Peace spread throughout the land as the Archaic Divinities dwelt in the world, which millennia afterwards would be known as Cwelythvir. However, such serenity was not fated to last forever. These proto-gods sought more and more for themselves. Their minds grew covetous of what was under their control, and they hungered for more. Instead of forms that were fashioned from their primal will, they created manifestations from their feelings of hate and their want for power.

War ravaged the land. Battles scarred continents, rose seas, and rendered the realm to a state of wounded ruin. However, destiny chose to preserve the world. From the spilt ichor of the Archaic Divinities sprung the Deities. They took to the world as its protector, and were horrified at the wanton destruction of their progenitors. After the greatest war known to the cosmos, the Archaic Divinities were locked away with locks and chains forged from powerful magicks. They were cast to the spaces remote and extreme. In the end, though the damage was extensive, the Deities were able to heal Cwelythvir from the razing of the Archaic Divinities.

After this, the Gods wished to fill the world with vibrant life. This, they thought, would help to fix the scars that their forefathers wrought upon this sacred realm. Thus, the Empyrean Apostates were created.
