Ballistas in Ancient Times

Ballistas were ancient siege engines capable of immense destruction. It originated in Ancient Greece, though soon spread to the Roman Empire. The exact mechanism that drives the ballista is extremely similar to that of the later crossbow. In some battles, ballistas were placed inside of moveable siege towers. Eventually, the development of a moveable joint allowed easy repositioning of the ballista, which further enabled its deadliness.
